Steep Hike up Penang Hill

My Hike up Penang Hill with a friend met at a bus stop had a troublesome start due to the infrequent bus no 10 to the Botanic Garden, but we finally got a Grab taxi there. The Garden was lovely; however, we couldn’t find the trail via the Garden described online and ended up hiking 2-hr via the steep 5-km 800-meter elevation Jeep trail to the top of the Penang Hill (升旗山), that has the best view of Georgetown (most people took 5-min cable car up) in the heat and humidity of the coastal plain. After strolling around the summit and taking photos, we walked down the same steep trail (30-45 degrees at times) in 45 minutes, and got another Grab taxi to Kek Lok Si-Temple of Supreme Bliss (极乐寺). A sprawling hillside structure that is reputed to be the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, with the Khmer/Thai/Chinese style Ban Po Thar (Ten Thousand Buddhas Tower) and various Buddha images in the main temple complex. We saw but did not go to the summit of the hill featuring a giant 36.5m high statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy. We then took bus 201 back to Love Lane. After laundry and shower, I got a pork noodles soup (粿條湯) , yong taufu (釀豆腐), and papaya juice for dinner. Yong tau foo is a Chinese cuisine consisting primarily of tofu filled with ground meat mixture or fish paste. Variation of this food include vegetables and mushrooms stuffed with ground meat or surimi.
