My 3rd Asian trip in Spring 2019









Sri Lanka  – South India – Laos  – Myanmar  – Malaysia  – Brunei - Korea – Taiwan 

I travel overseas 2-3 months each year to experience multicultural life.  Most recent 3 month Sri Lanka / South India / Laos / Myanmar / Malaysia / Brunei / Korea / Taiwan (Jan-April, 2019). My trip highlights include (1) half-way snowing hike in the national park near Seoul, south Korea; (2) Sunrise in the middle of thousands of Bagan pagodas, Myanmar; (3) Inle Lake 8-hr cruise, Myanmar; (4) steep hike up to Nam Xay Viewpoint in Vang Vieng Laos; (5) Kuang Si Falls near Luang Prabang, Laos; (6) Mamallapuram (stone-carving) and Brihadishwara Temple (Big Temple) UNESCO sites in south India; and (7) Sigiriya: 8th Winder of the World. Believe me, you can but do not have to learn local language to travel. I only learned one word of Farsi but traveled Iran for 3 weeks. After staying in South America for three months, Spain for 2.5 weeks, and Central America for two months, I speak just about 30 words of Spanish.


Other people deploy strategies such as working via the internet or remotely, finding jobs abroad, work-stay at hostels, guest worker at organic farms, etc., to realize their own overseas life style.  If you really want to travel, you will find a way to do it.

Inle Lake 8-hr cruise

I found a boat-sharing vendor for crushing Inle Lake today. It is a shallow 22-km long lake in the middle of Myanmar inhabited by many different tribes. I saw local fishermen posing for pictures at the lake entrance - with the expectation of a tip. The boat trip included visiting workshops, such as the Lotus textile weaving factory (lotus fibers are 7 times of silk), silversmith workshop, a shop for handmade cigars "cheroot" (from tobacco, honey, rice flour, tamarind, banana, and anise), 5-day rotating market (it's at the same location every 5 days), the Phaung Daw U pagoda with ceremonial boats, an over-priced lake restaurant for lunch, a cat-jumping monastery where the monks trained the jumping cats, the Indein village, The Sankar village and the nearby Tharkong pagoda. I really enjoyed this 8-hour boat ride passing through villages and great scenery.

“Future 100” report release

I went to Songshan Cultural and Creative Park for the release of “The Future 100: 2019” that predicts how the disruptive currents will play out in culture, consumer behavior and emerging trends. By the way, Walter Thomason hosted an amazing dessert break. In 2011, the Taipei City government finished renovations of the area, changing the space into a large public park with exhibition halls, art shows, and conference spaces. An Eslite is located at the northern end of the complex, housing a large bookstore, creative works shopping mall, vinyl records store, and a large number of shops in which guests can participate in creative art workshops. Inside MysorePalace

After a gormate seafood curry lunch in a high end AC restaurant, we visited the inside of the Mysore Palace which has Intricately carved rosewood doors and ceilings with inlaid ivory work, marble figurines, collections of caskets, paintings of the members of the royal family and other objects of personal use exhibit such opulence, though age as worn them out a bit with slight discolouration. I had only two bananas as dinner prior to the 12-hour VIP (reclining AC) bus ride into Kochi. It was a tiring ride.
