Two international trade shows followed by a Michelin 1-star restaurant

Image
I ran into TAIPEI INTERNATIONAL SPORTING GOODS SHOW, and checked up done fitness equipment, then took a free shuttle bus to 2019 TAIPEI CYCLE SHOW to see different types of bicycles, e-bikes, and their components and accessories.  I tested an electrical bike which was really heavy to push manually and cost over $3,000. I wonder how big the market is. There was a KTM Bike Industries covered with Swarovski Crystals, and I was invited to tasted hard liquor (茅台酒). I shooed for a 40-50 liter waterproof backpack, but most vendors don’t sell to consumers. I later visited a company and had dinner at Shin Yeh Bistro Nangang Restaurant 欣葉台菜南港 which recently receives Michelin one-star (米其林一星)recognition.

seminar on 5G and IOT Sponsored by Deloitte Taipei

Image
I was in Deloitte Taipei (occupying 7 floors with over 2000 people on site and another 1000 satelliting in clients) for a seminar on 5G and IOT. The keynote speech by Deloitte director of TMT 研究中心 packed in a lot of refreshing prospectives supported by in-depth technology analysis, such as co-bots backed up with edge machine learning and 5G, while consumer tele continuing developing with 4G with more efficiency, niche applications of machine learning in healthcare etc by start-ups, etc., was very informative for my investment strategy.  I like their snacks.  BTW, the chandelier looking piece is a quntum computer.

IP conference in Taiwan University

Image
After dental implant surgery 2nd day check up, I was scheduled to go back one week later to take modeling of temporary teeth while waiting for my jawbone to grow into and unite with the surface of the dental implants, which can take several months. I attended an intellectual property law seminar at National Taiwan University organized by two patent law firms I know for a long time, then had Italian dinner buffet (義式饗宴) with them. The AC was so strong that I dozed off a few times during the seminar. Since most of my molars are out of commission, I had to use my front teeth for chewing, which was slow, tiring and less tasty, yet I managed to taste most dishes except big pieces of meats. At the end of the dinner, I photoed with three other Tsing Hua alumni.

Dental implant operation

Image
I survived the 2.5 hrs dental surgery to extract 4 molars 臼齒and put in implant screws. Now using an ice pack and waiting for the gum to heal. My friend who lives near the dental clinic kindly took me to lunch before the surgery, and let me slept over for the next day check. The implants cost 1/3 of US, i.e., the same procedure would have costed me $30,000USD in USA. After all is done, I will have  a brand new car worth of dental work in my mouth. I also want to thank Dr. Lin who connected me with dentist Dr. Ho of 33-yr experience who effectively perform the 1st stage of my 4 implants to support 2 bridges.

“Future 100” report release

Image
I went to Songshan Cultural and Creative Park for the release of “The Future 100: 2019” that predicts how the disruptive currents will play out in culture, consumer behavior and emerging trends. By the way, Walter Thomason hosted an amazing dessert break. You can read the summary of the report here https://www.jwtintelligence.com/2018/11/the-future-100-2019/ This park sits on the grounds of a former tobacco factory established by the Japanese. In 2011, the Taipei City government finished renovations of the area, changing the space into a large public park with exhibition halls, art shows, and conference spaces. An Eslite is located at the northern end of the complex, housing a large bookstore, creative works shopping mall, vinyl records store, and a large number of shops in which guests can participate in creative art workshops. I like at the center a large, beautiful Baroque Garden where guests can stroll or relax. In addition, a large pond outside of the park has been modernized i
