Brihadishwara Temple (Rajarajeswaram or Big Temple)

We took three buses to go to Thanjavur (or 'Thanjai' or 'Tanjore') is 50 km frim Truchy to visit a temple and a palace. Thanjai is considered to be the granary and 'rice bowl' of Tamil Nadu.











Brihadishwara Temple (Rajarajeswaram or Big Temple), an UNESCO site and the most intricate example of the South Indian temple architecture. The temple is dedicated to Shiva, constructed as a celebration of the victory of the Chola Kingdom, and has hundreds of lingam are in the pillared cloister. The temple is surrounded by gardens and the entrance to the temple complex is free of cost.

The temple was built using the same method as the pyramids In Egypt.
