Tour downtown Georgetown
After walking by Supreme Court Buildings, St George's Church, Town Hall, City Hall, Fort Cornwallis, Victoria Memorial Clock Tower, etc, in downtown, I took a bus to the famous
Snake Temple (蛇庙) built in 1850 in memory of a Chinese monk Chor Soo Kong, and situated in the small town of Bayan Lepas on the edge of a highway. Chor Soo Kong gave shelter to the snakes of jungle; however, the snake population becomes very small, due to the urbanization of the area, and they are in cages. I think it was a waste of my time.
On the other hand, I was surprised by the Penang Diocesan Museum, which well demonstrates the history of Catholicism in Malaysia, that arrived in Malacca with the Portuguese back in 1511, and activities of early missionaries such as the Infant Jesus sisters, the La Salle brothers and the Little Sisters of the Poor in establishing schools and hospitals and care homes for the elderly.
