Nuwara Eliya Downtown
After parting with my new Chinese friends, I ventured into the local markets and stores. My first stop was a general store which includes a watch section and they replaced the battery in my electronic sport watch for only 66 cents USD. I checked out some restaurants for lunch options and chose chicken noddles. I shared the table with two Chinese girls who work in Colombo and came for the weekend.
After the late lunch, I ran into one of my Taiwanese travel mates in the city center and we walked around together to find Asian water buffalo yogurt, coconut mead (honey wine with 30 % alcohol, similar to rum for me), and wood apple juice (pretty taste).
“Wood apple (limonia acidissima) is rich in beta carotene. Wood apple is said to be good not only for the digestive system but is also said to mitigate breast cancer. Mead or honey wine is the oldest alcoholic drinks known to man. It is made from honey and water via fermentation with yeast. It may be still, carbonated, or sparkling; it may be dry, semi-sweet, or sweet. Unlike beers and cider, meads (being wines) are drunk in small quantities.”
My three Taiwanese travel mates and I then ate in a highly recommended Indian restaurant. I only ordered lintels soup because my late lunch. I will have plenty of opportunities to eat authentic Indian food during my 2-week South Indian trip right after Sri Lanka.
